What goes into a garage floor coating in El Paso?

A garage floor coating in El Paso means preparing your concrete floor and then putting down a coating, usually epoxy or polyaspartic, with a top coat if you want extra protection. On a sound, well-prepped slab, you end up with a floor that's easier to clean and stands up to cars, oil and foot traffic.

Most people call us when the garage floor is dusty, stained with oil, or peeling from a coating someone rolled on years ago. The price moves with the size of the floor, how much work the slab needs before anything goes down, such as pressure cleaning, fixing cracks or evening out a rough or uneven surface, whether we have to move your things out, whether you add a top coat, and which coating you pick. The schedule turns mostly on that coating, because epoxy and polyaspartic cure at very different speeds, and on how much prep your slab needs. If the concrete is broken badly enough that a coating won't fix it, concrete resurfacing may need to come first, and the estimate gives you your own figure either way.

How we put down a garage floor coating

I start by looking at the floor, because a garage slab tells you a lot about what's coming: old coatings, oil soaked into the concrete, cracks and damp spots. One coating maker's prep guide says the concrete has to be sound and clean, and mechanically prepared by grinding or shot blasting to take off old coatings, curing compounds, dirt, grease and oil, and it calls prep a critical factor in how the floor performs. So we grind the slab, fill the cracks, and only then lay down the coating, with a top coat if you want the extra protection. The bigger decision is usually the coating itself, since most garage calls come down to how long you can live without the garage against how long you want before a recoat, so we lay both choices out and show you how much prep is in our number. Ask any installer that same question, because a cheap quote with light prep is usually how a floor ends up peeling.

If sun on the slab or time without your garage tips the choice, polyaspartic floor coatings are the faster-curing option we'll walk you through. If you want the garage to look finished and not just protected, metallic epoxy flooring pours out as a deep, swirled gloss in place of the usual flake look.

Garage floor coatings in El Paso and what we check first

The City of El Paso's contractor sheet lists general contractor work on homes, such as new houses, additions, alterations, roofing and foundations, and it doesn't name floor coating, so that list alone doesn't tell you what a garage job needs. Rules change from one city and county to the next, so we check with the office that covers your address before we start, whether you're in El Paso or across the line in New Mexico.

Most garage slabs we see here carry somebody else's history: a store-bought coating that let go, oil from years of parking, or a front edge that takes direct sun when the door's up. We find the same floors on jobs in Horizon City and Socorro, and we prep them the same way.

Why call us for garage floors

  • The estimate comes from me

I come out to look at your floor and write the estimate myself. That way the person pricing your garage is the one who has to stand behind the prep.

  • Our crew, with me checking prep

Our own crew does the work, and I'm on the job to check the prep before any coating goes down. A coating is only as good as the slab under it, so that's the step I watch.

  • Coating floors since 2017

We've been at this since 2017, and the floors people send our way are often the odd ones: peeling garages, damp slabs and old coatings nobody can name. I'd rather spend the extra time figuring out why yours let go than guess and hope it holds.

  • Licensed and insured in your garage

We're fully licensed and insured, so the crew working in your garage is covered. If you have a question for the city about your job, its One Stop Shop takes calls at 915.212.0104.

Frequently asked questions

What does a garage floor coating cost in El Paso?

Epoxy garage floor coating in El Paso usually costs about $4 to $7 per square foot, including materials, floor prep and application. Where your floor lands in that range comes down to the size, the condition of the slab and the extras covered above. The on-site estimate gives you your own number.

How long does epoxy last compared with polyaspartic on a garage floor?

Makers' data puts home epoxy at about 5 to 10 years before it needs a recoat and polyaspartic at about 10 to 20. Those are typical spans, not promises, and if you plan to stay in the house a long time, polyaspartic may mean fewer recoats.

How soon can I park in my garage again after a coating?

Polyaspartic usually returns a garage to service in 1 to 4 hours a coat, while epoxy takes 16 to 72 hours a coat. A floor gets more than one coat, so if you choose epoxy, plan around a longer stretch without your garage.

Is an epoxy garage floor slippery?

Epoxy can be slippery, especially when it's wet, and mixing a granular material into the coat makes it less slick. Concrete stains cost less and can be less slippery depending on the concrete finish, so stained concrete is worth asking about if grip matters most.

Does epoxy turn yellow if my garage gets sun?

Yes, epoxy turns yellow and goes soft in the sun, and polyaspartic doesn't. If your door stays open or a window throws direct sun across the slab, that's a good reason to weigh polyaspartic.

Can a garage floor coating go down when it's too cold or too hot?

As general guidance, below about 55°F the coating's reaction slows dramatically or stops and can leave a soft, uncured film. Above 90°F the material gets too thick to spread sooner, so the crew has less working time, which is why we check the garage temperature before we mix.

  • Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

If your garage gets direct sun or you can't spare the space for long, this faster-curing coating holds its color and gets you parking again sooner.

  • Metallic Epoxy Flooring

For a garage that doubles as a shop, gym or showroom, a metallic epoxy pour gives a swirled, glossy look instead of a solid color with flakes.
