Get your slab checked before the pour
I walk the floor, check for cracks and old glue, and measure the room.
Request an estimateHow do you fix an uneven concrete floor before new flooring goes down?
Self-leveling concrete and overlays are thin, pourable layers we spread over an indoor slab in El Paso to fill low spots and even out humps, so tile, vinyl, wood or a coating goes down on a flat base. The pour is usually the quick part, and the checks on the slab before it are what set the schedule.
Most people call after pulling up old carpet or tile and finding a slab with dips, humps or a ridge that would show right through the new floor. The price turns on how big the room is, how deep the low spots run and whether cracks or old adhesive need work first, which sometimes means grinding and surface prep before anything gets poured. The schedule turns on the slab passing a moisture test and on the room holding a steady temperature, and I'll give you a figure for your own floor when I come out to look at it. We're based in El Paso and work across the city and the cities around it in Texas and New Mexico, so if you don't see yours on our list, call and ask.
How we handle self-leveling concrete and overlays
Leveling compound fixes a wavy floor, not a wet one or a cracked one, so the pour is the last thing we plan, not the first. I test the slab for moisture, look over the cracks and check any old black adhesive, because any one of those can undo a fresh pour if it's left alone. Then we clean and prep the surface so the compound bonds, prime it, set dams at the doorways so the mix stays where it belongs, and pour and spread it to the height the room needs. I'm on the job to check the prep before anything goes down, because that's the part you'll never see once the floor is in.
If there's old tile, carpet glue or a worn-out coating on the slab, our concrete floor stripping and removal work takes it down to bare concrete first, since the compound has to grab the slab and not whatever was sitting on it. Outdoor concrete takes a different approach, so when the rough, uneven surface is out around the pool, we handle it as pool deck coatings and resurfacing instead.
Self-leveling concrete in El Paso, from permits to old glue
The City of El Paso issues building permits for work that alters or builds a primary residence, and a homeowner acting as their own general contractor can apply for one. Whether a leveling pour on your floor needs a permit depends on the job, so we check with the city for your address before we start, and if yours needs one, we handle the paperwork or walk you through it if you're filing as the owner. Contractors also have to file their registration with the city every year to stay eligible to pull permits there, which is a fair thing to ask any installer about.
Around El Paso we pull up a lot of old carpet and tile and find slabs with low spots, a lip where an addition meets the original floor, or black glue left from flooring laid long ago. We see the same thing on jobs in Socorro and Horizon City, and we deal with it the same way, by sorting out what's on and in the slab before we mix anything.
Why call us for floor leveling
I check the prep myself
I come out to look at your floor and write the estimate, and I'm back on the job to check the prep before anything goes down. Our own crew does the work, so the person who read your slab is the one watching it get ready.
Odd slabs since 2017
We've been at this since 2017, and we're known for the floors that need some figuring out, like damp slabs, peeling coatings and old glue nobody can name. If your slab has a few surprises in it, that's a job we'd rather take time over than guess at.
Licensed and insured for your job
We're fully licensed and insured. El Paso asks general contractors who register with the city for a certificate of general liability insurance, so it's fair to ask any installer to show you theirs.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to level a concrete floor in El Paso?
Leveling a concrete floor with self-leveling compound usually costs about $4.50 to $7 per square foot installed across the US, so treat that as a national guide rather than an El Paso price. Deeper low spots, crack repair and old adhesive work push a job higher, which is why we price it after seeing the slab.
Does my concrete slab need a moisture test before self-leveling?
Yes, the slab gets tested for moisture to the finish flooring maker's specifications before any leveling compound goes in. One maker of these products says they won't stop moisture coming up, so a slab that fails needs its own fix first. When a test fails, the cause can sit outside the slab, such as poor grading, bad drainage, or gutters, vapor barriers or outside sealants that are missing or badly installed.
Can you pour self-leveling concrete over a cracked slab?
Yes, once the cracks are looked at and repaired, and that repair goes on the schedule ahead of the leveling date. Slabs expand, shrink and shift with temperature, seasons and settling ground, and one maker advises talking to an experienced engineer about existing cracks. That same maker's warranty leaves out slab movement and moisture coming up through cracks, so we sort the cracks out before we pour.
How long does self-leveling concrete take before I can walk on it?
One maker says to stay off the new floor for at least 2 to 3 hours, depending on the temperature and humidity in the room. Before the pour, that maker also has the doors and windows closed, the heating and cooling switched off so no drafts reach the floor while it cures, and the area kept out of direct sunlight.
What is the best time to schedule a self-leveling concrete pour?
Pick a date when the room can stay between 50°F and 95°F, because one maker requires the slab and the room air to be in that range before the pour and for at least 72 hours after. If the space isn't heated or cooled yet, like a garage being finished into a room, we talk through how it'll hold that range before we book the day.
How do I deal with old black tile glue before leveling a concrete floor?
Get it tested for asbestos before anyone scrapes or grinds it, because one maker warns that all cutback adhesive, the black glue often left under old tile, should be tested before removal. Adhesive that contains asbestos is left unsanded, so set up that test before removal starts. If I see black adhesive when I look at your floor, I'll point it out so the test happens before we plan anything.
