I walk the room with you and point out cracks or old glue before you choose.
Request an estimateCan my old concrete slab be polished into a finished floor?
Polished concrete flooring in El Paso turns the slab already in your house or shop into the finished floor, because we grind it, harden it and polish it to the shine you choose instead of covering it with something else.
Most people who call about this have just pulled up carpet or tile and found plain concrete with glue lines and a few cracks, or they've got a shop slab they're tired of recoating. The price moves with the size of the room, what's stuck to the slab now, how many cracks and chipped spots need repair, and how much stone and shine you want, since showing more stone means grinding deeper. The schedule turns mostly on that prep and on whether the slab is dry enough, and when I come out I look at all of it on your floor and put it in a written estimate.
What our polished concrete flooring work includes
With polishing, the slab you already have becomes the finished floor, so I want to know what's in it before you pick a look. We check how hard the concrete is and how much moisture it's giving off, then polish a small spot on your own floor so you can see how much stone comes through. Next we take off whatever's on the surface, like old glue, mastic, paint or coating, and fill the cracks and chipped spots, and I'm there to check that prep before anything else happens. Then our crew grinds in stages with finer and finer heads, works in a densifier that hardens the surface, adds a guard coat and polishes up to the sheen you picked.
Polishing isn't the right answer for every slab. If yours is patched or uneven enough that bare concrete won't look the way you want, stained concrete flooring puts color into the surface instead of relying on the stone. If you love the look of exposed stone but your slab doesn't have much in it, terrazzo flooring gives you a chip pattern you choose from the start.
Polished concrete flooring in El Paso: cracks, soil and permits
Cracks are the first thing I look at on a polishing job here, because a polish shows a crack plainly instead of hiding it under a coating. One El Paso contractor's guide describes the local clay and silt staying dry most of the year, then swelling fast once monsoon rain arrives, roughly July through September, and says that push and pull eventually cracks slabs. The same guide points to a crack's width, whether one side sits higher than the other, and whether it keeps moving over time as the signs that matter, and those are the three things I'd ask about on any slab before it's polished. We run into the same kind of cracking on jobs in Socorro and Horizon City, so we plan the repair before we plan the shine.
The City of El Paso requires a building permit to build, enlarge, alter, repair, move or demolish a building or change how it's used, and its One Stop Shop takes those applications. The city's list doesn't settle whether polishing an existing floor falls under that, so we check with the office that covers your address before we start, and if your job needs a permit, we handle the paperwork or walk you through it if you're filing as the owner. The city also registers residential contractors for work like alterations and foundation work, so if a permit comes into it, ask any installer whether they're registered.
Why call us for polished concrete
I look at your slab myself
I come out to look at the floor and write the estimate, and I'm on the job to check the prep before anything goes down. Our own crew does the grinding, so you're never handed off to someone who hasn't seen your floor.
Figuring out odd slabs since 2017
We've been at this since 2017, and we're the ones people call for peeling garage floors, damp basements and old coatings nobody can name. That matters on a polish, because whatever's stuck to your slab has to come off cleanly before the floor will look right.

Frequently asked questions
Will my existing concrete slab work for polished concrete?
It will if it tests hard and dry enough and the cracks, chipped spots and old coatings on it can be dealt with first. Contractors typically test hardness and moisture before committing to a polish, and those results can change the scope of work, so ask for them before you sign with anyone. Older slabs in shops and warehouses have often been oiled, painted or coated, while a newer pour may still be giving off moisture.
How shiny can a polished concrete floor get?
You choose the shine, because polished concrete now has set levels for how shiny the surface looks and set classes for how much stone shows. Picking a level and a class gives you and your installer one shared standard for the finished floor, which beats arguing later over what 'shiny' meant.
What causes the stone pattern to show in polished concrete?
The stone you see comes from the concrete mix and from how the slab was placed and finished, so an existing slab brings its own pattern to the job. Since that pattern varies with the type, size and spread of the stone, trade guidance says a sample should be done on the actual slab rather than off site. A photo of someone else's floor won't tell you what's in yours.
How do I take care of a polished concrete floor?
Clean it regularly with a neutral cleaner. There's no film on top to peel, since the floor is the slab itself, but busy areas need the guard coat reapplied or the floor re-burnished now and then, so plan on that as ongoing care.
How much does polished concrete flooring cost in El Paso?
The cost comes down to the size of the room and how much work the slab needs before polishing, so I give you a number after I've seen and tested your floor. Heavy glue, mastic or old coatings, a lot of crack repair, a deeper cut to bring out more stone, a higher shine and added color all push it up, while a clean slab and a light grind keep it down. Call (915) 265-1229 and I'll come take a look.
Can polished concrete be colored?
Yes, dye is an optional step that goes on along with the densifier, before the final polish. It's worth deciding on color after you've seen the test spot, since the stone and the dye show together.
Other ways to finish a concrete floor
Stained Concrete Flooring
If your slab has patches or little stone worth showing, staining puts rich color into the concrete itself, and it suits rooms where you'd rather see tone than texture.
Terrazzo Flooring
When you want a floor full of visible chips and stone in a pattern you choose, terrazzo builds that look on purpose rather than relying on what's in your slab.
