Is a metallic epoxy floor right for your El Paso space?

Metallic epoxy flooring in El Paso is a layered coating over your concrete, usually a primer, a colored epoxy basecoat, a metallic epoxy coat and a clear urethane topcoat. As the metallic coat cures, its pearly pigments drift into swirls and depth, so no two floors come out alike.

Most people who call us have a garage, a shop or a living area on concrete and want something with more character than gray paint or carpet. The price moves mostly with the slab, because old coatings, oil soaked into the concrete and cracks all mean grinding and patching before the first coat, and then with the size of the room and the finish you pick. The schedule turns on that same prep and on the wait between coats, since each layer has to cure before the next one goes on. The estimate gives you the figure for your own floor.

How we install a metallic epoxy floor

Metallic floors are the most fun puzzle we do, because each one moves a little differently as it cures. We start by grinding the slab down to clean, sound concrete and patching the cracks, since a coating holds only as well as whatever is under it. Then we pick the base color with you and make a sample first, so you see the look before it covers your whole floor. After that come the primer and the colored basecoat. The metallic coat is worked while it's still wet so the pattern can move, and a clear topcoat goes over it to protect it.

Some floors are better served by something else, and I'd rather tell you that at the estimate than after. A kitchen or wash bay that takes hot water and harsh cleaners every day usually does better with urethane cement flooring. If you like the look of bare concrete, polished concrete flooring gives you a sheen with no coating on top.

Metallic epoxy flooring jobs in El Paso and nearby

Permit rules change from one city and county to the next, so before we start we check with the office that covers your address. If your job needs a permit, we handle the paperwork or walk you through it if you're filing as the owner.

Around here a lot of metallic floors go into garages, and a garage is where sun can cause trouble. One maker's guide says no direct sun should hit the slab while the coating goes down, because sun raises bubbles in the film. It also says not to work when humidity is below 20%, and it gets its best results in an indoor, climate-controlled room. So a door open to the afternoon sun is something we'll talk through at the estimate. On a newer house, another maker's guide says fresh concrete needs at least 28 days to cure and has to meet its moisture limits before it's coated, and that sets your earliest start date. We see the same mix of garages and newer slabs on jobs in Horizon City and Socorro.

Why call us for metallic floors

  • The owner writes your estimate

I come out to look at the floor and write the estimate myself, and our own crew does the work. You deal with the person who actually saw your slab, not someone reading from a sheet.

  • Prep checked before anything goes down

A Texas flooring cost guide calls skipping prep the number one reason cheap epoxy floors fail in a year. That's why I'm on the job to check the prep myself before anything goes down.

  • Figuring out odd slabs since 2017

We've been at this since 2017, and we're known for the strange ones, like peeling garage floors and old coatings nobody can name. That matters with metallic, because a glossy finish shows every flaw underneath it.

  • Licensed, insured, satisfaction guaranteed

We're fully licensed and insured. Your satisfaction, guaranteed. Ask any installer you're comparing about both, because a metallic floor is a big job to hand to someone without coverage.

Frequently asked questions

How much does metallic epoxy flooring cost in El Paso?

Epoxy floor coating in El Paso usually costs about $3 to $10 per square foot. That's the going rate for epoxy floors in the area, not a quote from us. Where your floor falls in that range comes down mostly to the slab prep and finish covered above, and you'll get a figure for your own space at the estimate.

How does the basecoat color change a metallic epoxy floor?

The basecoat sets the overall tone, because the metallic coat on top is see-through. A white or light basecoat gives a lighter floor, and a black or dark one pulls it darker. That's why you pick both colors together, and why we make the sample before the full floor.

How long does a metallic epoxy floor take before I can use the room?

Plan on the room staying out of use into the following day at least. In one maker's system, the epoxy body coat cures overnight and gets sanded the next day before the topcoat goes on. Prep and repairs come before that, so we'll walk you through the full schedule for your floor at the estimate.

What happens to my concrete before a metallic epoxy coating goes on?

Your concrete gets cleaned down to a dry, sound surface first. One maker's data sheet calls for removing curing compounds, hardeners and other surface contaminants, and it recommends shot blasting or planetary grinding to get there. That maker also says slabs should be tested for high moisture vapor before coating, so ask any installer whether your slab will be tested.

What is the best way to know I'll like a metallic floor before it's installed?

Ask to see a sample made with your colors before the whole floor gets coated. One maker calls metallic epoxy systems extremely difficult to install and strongly recommends mock-ups to confirm both the look and the performance. As mentioned above, we make one with you first.

What do I need to shut off at home before epoxy floor coating?

If the system is solvent-based, pilot lights and anything that can spark, such as electric motors, need to be shut off, and cross ventilation needs to be set up first. Those products are extremely flammable. At the estimate we'll tell you which products your floor calls for and what to switch off.

  • Urethane Cement Flooring

Breweries, restaurant kitchens and food plants that see heat, spills and daily washdowns usually need a thicker, tougher floor than a decorative coating like metallic epoxy.

  • Polished Concrete Flooring

A good fit for shops, offices and modern homes where people want the concrete itself to show, ground and polished smooth instead of covered.
